Entanglement of Textuality and Physicality

28Jan2016 30Jan2016

Conference

International and interdisciplinary conference organized by Elke Huwiler and Anna Seidl.

The conference spans a broad interdisciplinary field exploring the physical dimensions of textuality and the textual dimensions of physicality. The spectrum of contributions includes literature and book art, rituals and theatre, body cultures and sexuality, music and text, the unspoken and the spoken. Textuality that materializes the text as a physical object will be discussed in the context of performativity. In turn, the physicality that materializes the body as text will be read as corporal inscriptions and signatures. This entanglement of textuality and physicality results in a co-evolution of text, culture and materiality, which reveals the historical and cultural determinations of different kinds of scripts.
