About the speaker

David M. Pomfret is Professor and Head of the School of Humanities at the University of Hong Kong. He is the author or editor of five books, including most recently Youth and Empire: Trans-colonial Childhoods in British and French Asia (Stanford University Press, 2016), winner of the Grace Abbott book prize 2017. He is sole editor of a forthcoming volume Youth in the Age of Empire (Bloomsbury, 2020) and is also completing a monograph comparing imperial cultures of youth, focusing on parts of Asia and South-East Asia under British and French rule.
