Description

This newly set up group consists of scholars with an interest in comics and comics studies. We come from various disciplines, such as cultural analysis, history, media studies, literary studies, and area studies. Our research spans a range of theoretical approaches as well as practice-based research; engages a variety of forms, including political cartoons, newspaper strips, graphic novels and digital comics, and responds to pertinent social issues, such as processes of decolonisation, visual politics of race, histories of social movements, struggle, and conflict.

This network aims to create a space for exchange and connection, for instance, in the form of:

  • Reading key theoretical texts from the field of comics studies together
  • Reviewing each other’s work in progress
  • Inviting comics makers to give talks or workshops
  • Organising symposiums or conferences

We warmly welcome new members. If you want to get involved, please send an e-mail tο R.Spanjers@uva.nl and K.Gedgaudaite@uva.nl
