Marx’s Capital is one of the most influential works of the modern humanities. After Volume 1, we will now continue reading Capital Volume 2. The reading group aims to be a focused place to tackle this imposing and voluminous text, from a philosophical perspective. We will meet once every two weeks on Tuesday 16.00-18.00, starting September 15th, 2024. For every session, we will read one or several chapters and one or two people will present the readings to start the discussion. The reading group is open to all who have read Volume 1 before (not necessarily in this reading group). Active participation and regular attendance is required. If you are interested please contact v.a.vanwijngaarden@uva.nl and o.l.talbot@uva.nl for the location.
In his highly influential work Capital, Karl Marx offers a rich and complex critique of the rise and functioning of the capitalist system. Marx is particularly interested in how within the inevitable crises caused by continuous flows of capital, the possibility of a new order takes shape. In this reading group, we will work our way through this important and timely book.
