Training programme

ASCA PhD candidates have access to a wide selection of research seminars, intensive interdisciplinary courses on specific topics and themes, and workshops devoted to practical skills.

Three different schools offer PhD training: The National Research Schools (including the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis - NICA), the Graduate School of Humanities (PhD Skills courses), and ASCA itself. All PhD candidates are welcome to participate, but they do not have to. The programmes are not compulsory. PhD candidates are expected to make their own selection; they do not have to earn ECTS.

ASCA Programme

The ASCA programme organises high-level seminars, reading groups, and workshops in which relevant and urgent topics are discussed by scholars working within the interdisciplinary humanities.

PhD Skills Programme

The AIHR (Amsterdam Institute for Humanities Research), the faculty's research institute, offers a range of courses for PhD students who wish to develop their skills.

National Research Schools

The UvA's Faculty of Humanities manages four national research schools. Find out more on the AIHR (Amsterdam Institute for Humanities Research) page.
