There are many young and soon-to-be parents in our community, but we don’t often get the chance to meet each other - at least not in our role as parents.
Having a young child comes with a few changes: not enough sleep, new responsibilities, adjusting to unpredictable schedules, daycare bugs... At the same time, working in academia often comes with its own demands and expectations. Returning to work after maternity or partner leave can also bring many practical questions.
With this first meet-up, we want to create an opportunity to share our experiences of being parents in academia: the challenges and worries, but also the things that have worked for us. We hope this can be a first step towards making parenting more visible and creating more awareness and support for parents within the university.
We invite mothers, fathers and other parents to get together on November 5th at 15:00 hrs. Of course, you’re welcome to bring your children!
To have an indication of how many we will be, and if children will attend as well (and how old they are), please let us know by sending a message to Eloe at asca-fgw@uva.nl
